Woman in critical condition after 45-foot jump at Raiders game

A woman and a man were seriously injured after the Raiders game on Sunday when the woman jumped from the third deck at O.co Coliseum, injuring both individuals. The unidentified male and the unidentified female were both hospitalized after the incident.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The man was hospitalized in stable condition.
The entire incident began about 15 minutes after the game ended when the woman climbed up to a tarped-off area above the south end zone in section 301 of the stadium. The woman climbed to the top row of the section and was getting ready to jump, when two men saw her and unsuccessfully tried to talk her out of it.
When the woman jumped, one of the men tried catch her. The woman plunged almost 45 feet and was knocked unconscious by the fall, according to Alameda County Sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson.
“Raiders fans sometimes get a bad rap, but here was this guy who did an amazing, heroic thing to try to save this woman’s life,” Nelson said. “He did everything he could, including putting himself at great risk. There’s not a lot of people who would do that and he did it.”
Nelson believes that if the man hadn’t attempted to catch the woman, the woman would have died.
“We don’t believe that he knew her from anybody else going into today, but just out of the good will of his heart, he tried to save her life,” Nelson said. “No doubt he saved her life, at least for right now.”
The incident comes one week after a fan in Buffalo fell from the upper deck to a lower deck at Ralph Wilson Stadium. That man, who fell while sliding down a rail and suffered minor injuries, has been banned from the stadium and fired from his job.
