Call it the Stadium Security Administration
Posted By Max Brantley on Thu, Feb 7, 2019 New legislation proposes a brand-new bureaucracy to establish a “uniform security protocol” for public events — such as football games and rock concerts. HB 1415 by Rep. Brian Evans would establish a committee including university officials, state agencies and others to develop a standard security protocol for admission procedures for public events, whether ticketed or unticketed, held at arenas, stadiums, auditoriums, and other facilities designed to hold large numbers of people for public events What might that mean? The protocol specifications shall include without limitation: (A) Designation of the types and sizes of items that may be brought into an event; (B) Standards for purses, bags, sacks, backpacks, and other implements designed to carry other items; and (C) Standards and recommendations for secure admissions to public events. As written, the proposal doesn’t seem to provide for enforcement of these recommendations. This idea perhaps arises from the Salt Bowl panic at War Memorial. Or perhaps it’s just a byproduct of what seems to be, for many people at least, ever more anxious times. https://www.arktimes.com/ArkansasBlog/archives/2019/02/07/call-it-the-stadium-security-administration
Fan who flashed laser on Tom Brady banned from Arrowhead Stadium, will face charges
Adam Schefter ESPN Senior Writer, 2/3/19 The fan who shined a laser on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during the AFC Championship Game has been identified, apprehended, banned from Arrowhead Stadium for life and soon will face charges from the Kansas City district attorney, league sources told ESPN. After a Kansas City television station identified a fan shining a laser on Brady, Chiefs officials quickly worked to identify the fan by using videotape and eyewitnesses. The NFL says it will look into a report that a laser was flashed at Patriots quarterback Tom Brady during the fourth quarter Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. “There’s a lot of pride in Kansas City, and we and our fans thought, ‘You don’t do that here,’” one Chiefs official told ESPN. The Kansas City police department initially wanted to cite the fan with disorderly conduct, but Chiefs officials didn’t feel those charges were strong enough and instead have been pushing for “the harshest penalty possible,” in the words of one source. The Chiefs want this incident to deter fans from pointing a laser at players at future games, a violation that has more serious ramifications than many realize. Since last month’s conference title game, members of Keep Reading
Man wearing security jacket caught trying to sneak into Patriots locker room
By Nick Goss February 04, 2019 1:03 AM The New England Patriots’ locker room was the sight of a Super Bowl LIII celebration Sunday night, and one unwanted guest tried to crash the party. After the Patriots defeated the Rams 13-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a man posing as a security official tried to sneak into the Patriots locker room but was caught, as evidenced in the Sports Illustrated video below. It’s now known at this time how the fan got the red security jacket, but luckily for the Patriots, he was caught before entering the locker room. This isn’t the first time there’s been a security issue following a Super Bowl victory for the Patriots. Tom Brady’s game-worn jerseys from Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI both were stolen. They were ultimately found thanks to law enforcement. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/patriots/man-wearing-security-jacket-caught-trying-sneak-patriots-locker-room?utm_source=Main+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=8a5197f16a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_01_18_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_4eada278ac-8a5197f16a-295136453
FBI: Drone pilots caught flying in Super Bowl area face fines, jail time
Feb 2, 2019 ATLANTA – FBI officials say they have confiscated half a dozen unauthorized drones flying around Mercedes-Benz Stadium ahead of Super Bowl 53. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction (TFR) in the areas around the stadium and is warning pilots to stay out of the “no drone zone.” Officials issued a stern warning message to the public Thursday that pilots caught flying drones in the area face significant fines and/or jail time. Channel 2′s Aaron Diamant talked to frustrated FBI officials, who said drones take away security resources from other areas that need them. “It’s taken a lot of time, it’s taken up a lot of time for our agents and for law enforcement officers to be targeting these drones when they could be working on other security measures.” FBI Spokesman Kevin Rowson said. Not only do agents have to figure out if any of the unauthorized drones are weaponized, officials are also concerned they could crash and hurt someone. The FBI’s lead Super Bowl planner, John Cronier, said that’s not the only problem. “A drone impact with a fixed-wing aircraft or a helicopter of any sort would be catastrophic,” Cronier said. “We are making sure that Keep Reading
Man charged, detained in Poland escape room game deaths
By Monika Scislowska | AP January 6 WARSAW, Poland — Prosecutors in northern Poland detained and brought charges Sunday against the man who designed an escape room entertainment site where five teenage girls were killed in a fire. The man, identified only as Milosz S., was charged with intentionally creating a fire danger and unintentionally causing the deaths of the girls, said prosecutor Ryszard Gasiorowski, adding that the location’s heating system was faulty and there was no emergency evacuation route. A court decision is expected Monday on prosecutors’ request that he be held for three months while the case proceeds. Firefighters in the city of Koszalin found the victims’ bodies Friday after they extinguished a fire next to the locked room. Prosecutors say a leaky gas container inside a heater is the most likely cause of the blaze. ADVERTISING Autopsies showed that the girls, who were friends from school, died of carbon monoxide inhalation. A young man employed there was hospitalized with burns. He was to be questioned. Attorneys for the man charged said he was “deeply distraught” by the deaths and has expressed deep condolences to the families before the prosecutors. They said the 28-year-old denies the charges but because of Keep Reading

Inter Milan fan dies after clashes with Napoli supporters
Associated Press, December 26, 2018 MILAN – An Inter Milan fan died following clashes with Napoli supporters outside San Siro Stadium ahead of a Serie A game on Wednesday, which was also marred by racist chants. Milan police chief Marcello Cardona said Thursday that investigators believe the 35-year-old fan, Daniele Belardinelli, may have been fatally struck by a van or SUV during the clashes. Four Napoli fans were injured and at least three people arrested. “You can’t die from going to the stadium to see a soccer match,” Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said. Salvini added that he would gather club and fan representatives from all Serie A and B teams for a meeting to make sure “football returns to being a moment of fun and not violence. We’ll see if we can do what others weren’t able to.” Cardona said he will request that Inter fans be banned from traveling to away games for the rest of the season and that the northern end of the San Siro, where Inter’s “ultra” fans are based, be closed until March 31. Inter won Wednesday’s match 1-0. The game was also marred by racist chants which targeted Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegal Keep Reading
Report: Giants fans sue for the right to heckle with vulgarities
ByDan Schneier Dec 29, 2018 We take a break from New York Giants coverage of the 2018 regular season, the future for franchise icon Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr.’s troublesome quad injury, and Saquon Barkley’s record-breaking rookie season to provide an update on a story we covered back in 2017. When the Giants played the San Francisco 49ers two seasons ago during a year where the franchise would just hours later fire their general manager and head coach, it was two ornery fans who made headlines. Luckily for these two fans, who also happened to be brothers, their story was buried the following week as the Giants focus shifted to the departures of ex-head coach Ben McAdoo and ex-general manager Jerry Reese and who would replace them. The two brothers, Kyle and Patrick Flynn, played the role of away team fans who got a little too excited rooting for the Giants and against the home team 49ers (and their fans). Kyle and Patrick were removed from the 2017 Giants-49ers game by force as the security guards on duty deemed them to not be fit to remain after receiving complaints of them belligerently criticizing the team while causing a scene. The scene got Keep Reading
Taylor Swift deploys facial recognition to identify stalkers
Posted by TheStadiumBusiness on 13th December 2018 Taylor Swift used facial recognition technology during a concert at Los Angeles’ Rose Bowl stadium earlier this year in an effort to spot potentially dangerous ‘super fans’, it has emerged. The Rolling Stone magazine reports that the technology was implemented during the US popstar’s gig at the stadium on May 18. Fans unknowingly had their faces scanned while watching rehearsal clips of Swift at the stadium. Recordings were then sent to a command centre in Nashville, where they were checked against a database of hundreds of Swift’s known stalkers. “Everybody who went by would stop and stare at it, and the software would start working,” Mike Downing, chief security officer of Oak View Group, which advises venues on concert operations, told Rolling Stone. Downing attended the Rose Bowl concert to witness a demonstration of the technology. The Telegraph newspaper noted that the Rose Bowl would not need to inform fans that they are under surveillance as the stadium is a private company. Facial recognition technology is on the rise in stadiums and arenas across the world. Earlier this year, Ticketmaster invested in facial recognition firm Blink Identity as part of plans to integrate Keep Reading
Concert Stampede In Italy Leaves 6 Dead, More Than 50 Injured
December 10, 2018 Olivia Perreault During a concert in Italy over the weekend, a spray was released into the air, causing a stampede to break out, killing six fans and injuring over 50. The concert, led by Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta, took place Saturday night at the Blue Lantern disco in Corinaldo, Italy, near Ancona on the Adriatic coast. According to the Associated Press, survivors said an irritant spray was released into the air around 1 a.m., which led the crowd to panic. Teenagers began to rush out a door and toward a low wall near an exit. However, the barrier gave way and people began to fall and trip over one another. TV RaiNews24 reported that bodies of the trampled victims were found near a low wall and most had their skulls crushed during the incident. Three girls and two boys – ranging from ages 14 to 16 – were killed, along with a 39-year-old mother who had brought her daughter to the show, Col. Cristian Carrozza, commander of the Ancona province Carabinieri paramilitary police, said. The injuries ranged from arm and leg ailments to cranial and chest traumas, doctors at Ancona’s main hospital said. An 18-year-old survivor said Keep Reading
